Satan’s minions can trap us in many ways. An for those who follow Christ he gives special attention. The aim of course is to hinder, stop, or destroy. The last is the preferred outcome. As it is written, “Be self controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Pet 5:8(NIV)

WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN
a true story of Annette Boyd

I had never seen cocain except on T.V. So, what I found in my purse was a surprise.

I had gone to a county jail with a fellow minister to drop some things off to an inmate. It was night-time and the parking lot was dark. But I decided to sit in the car while he went in. I was trying to see something and puled a box of matches out of my purse. I opened the box and found it full of small rocks, like the rock cocain I’d seen—at least that’s what I thought they were. My friend, who put me up in Denver confirmed that it was cocain.

Two days before, my aunt had called an told me with bad news, “Ned is very ill. He wants to see you. Do you think you could fly to Denver for a visit?”

The next evening, my husband, a maintenance man for an apartment building brought a box of things home from an apartment that had been vacated some time. This match box was in it. I assumed it had matches inside. I put the matches in my purse and headed for the airport. I had to go through the security station before boarding the plane. When I got to Dallas I had a lay-over. Then through another security station before boarding.

I told my friend about going through two security x-rays, and she agreed I was very fortunate to not be in jail right then. The x-rays would have shown the contents of the match box clearly. The guards would not have listened to anything I could have said. How could these trained professionals miss that? God must have dispatched an angel to interrupt their vision

God protects us from things even when we don’t know there is something to be protected from. So, it is clearly important to understand and believe what God says—things like Psalm 91:14 15 (NLT), “The LORD says, ‘I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them.’”

—And—

“But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you will succeed. And everyone who tells lies in court will be brought to justice. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the LORD; their vindication will come from me. I, the LORD, have spoken! Isaiah 54:17 (NLT)
